Wilson Consulting Groups was thrilled to learn that Parks Victoria’s Safety First Zero Injuries Program won the highly-prestigious Gold Quill Excellence in Communications Award by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC)  which recognises business communication excellence globally.

A great safety strategy is nothing without engaging communications and as per this global award,Parks Victoria overcame complex communications challenges to international acclaim, and improved internal safety practices.

WCG consultants worked with Parks Victoria to to tackle a vastly geographically-spread workforce that can be limited to only a couple of employees per site. Offices were spread from Lakes Entrance to Little Desert and incident reporting and knowledge sharing amongst sites was very low. We identified that video messaging would be the best approach to address these challenges and recommended a structure to support consistent communication across the team, delivered by leaders and aimed at increasing two way knowledge-transfer and incident reporting to reduce workplace injuries and increase knowledge of immediate threats.

The program was launched in March 2015 and has led to many positive outcomes beyond global recognition, including increased safety communications and increased visibility of safety performance. Most importantly, injuries have decreased overall over the past two years, which all employees should be proud of.

Congratulations to all involved.
